The Project comprises the Sponsor’s acquisition and renovation of 2 adjoining vacant buildings that are located at 70 and 80 Church Street in Lowell to expand the size and capabilities of UTEC’s Woodworking social enterprise and the number of participants it can serve. The buildings had been previously used as an auto parts store. Renovations have been completed prior to closing for the larger building at 70 Church Street to allow for more advanced manufacturing skills and training with laser cutting and computer-numeric control (CNC) machinery.Renovations will begin at closing on the 80 Church Street building into converting it into classroom space with computers, maker space with 3-D printer and fabric laser cutter, administrative office space, event rental space, and retail space to be operated by community partner while also providing an outlet for UTEC’s young adult program participants to display and sell their own products.
