The project consists of 14 buildings located in the Main South neighborhood of Worcester, which is located 0.5 miles south of downtown Worcester. Main Street, the neighborhood’s primary thoroughfare, contains a mix of commercial, institutional, and residential uses. The residential housing stock consists mostly of 2- and 3-family houses, most of which are adequately maintained. There are a small number of severely distressed and/or vacant properties, many of which have already been acquired by Main South CDC as part of its effort to address the destabilizing affects of foreclosures on the neighborhood. In recent years Main South CDC has also completed the construction of over 50 new homeownership units. Older mill buildings in the neighborhood are in the process of conversion from industrial to residential uses. In 2010, the Worcester Boys and Girls Club opened a new facility in the KGH neighborhood, immediately adjacent to a vacant parcel on which Clark University will also construct a new track and field facility in the near future.
