EBNHC is one of the leading health care providers in Boston and one of the largest community health centers in the country. It is a Federally-Qualified Health Center providing care to 55,000 patients annually. MHIC’s New Markets financing helped EBNHC finance its development of a new 4-story, 49,000-sq. ft. medical clinic. Located in the heart of Maverick Square in East Boston and directly across the street from the newly-renovated Maverick Square MBTA Station, the new building has 31 additional exam rooms, enabling EBNHC to serve more patients, reduce wait times, and increase overall operational efficiencies. EBNHC’s innovative health programs include community gardens, a farmer’s market, and nutrition education for obesity prevention, including a ’”Let’s Get Movin’” program, a lifestyle change program for children and teens that promotes activity, nutrition and healthy choices.

The new medical clinic is designed to be a vital community resource that will contribute to the ongoing revitalization of East Boston’s central business district, stimulate economic growth, enhance the health center’s capacity to serve a medically underserved population, and improve health outcomes for the East Boston community. Ultimately, the medical clinic is expected to accommodate approximately 100,000 additional patient visits per year, representing a 33% increase over 10 years. The project will also create 200 new jobs.
