275 Chestnut Street Ribbon Cutting

Last week, MHIC staff attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for 275 Chestnut Street in Springfield, MA! We’re honored to contribute a Total Equity Investment of $6 million to support the adaptive reuse of former YMCA offices and program space.

MHIC partnered with Home City Development Inc. (HCDI), to help bring this project to life. Not only were 29 affordable studio apartments constructed, but 20 of them will support chronically homeless individuals, plus 3 units for clients of the MA Department of Mental Health. All units will be allocated for individuals earning less than 60% AMI. Additionally, on-site support services will be provided by the Mental Health Association, Inc., funded by Hampden County Continuum of Care.

A huge thank you to our partners: the MA Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) and the City of Springfield, as well as Justin Rudgick at HCDI.

Special shoutout to Carrie Knudson and the Community Investment team at MHIC for their incredible leadership. We’re so excited to begin this new chapter supporting Springfield.
