South Cove Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Inc. (SCM) is the only nursing and rehabilitation home in the region dedicated to serving the Asian community. Using NMTC financing, SCM recently broke ground in Quincy to build a new, state-of-the-art facility that will replace SCM’s current facility, opened in 1985, in Boston’s Chinatown. It will feature 141 beds clustered in small resident communities, gracious common areas, expanded rehabilitation space, and attractive streetscape and gardens.

For seven years, SCM looked without success for a good location to build an expanded facility. When the Quincy site was found, MHIC’s NMTC financing made the critical difference in making the project possible. In addition to providing a modern facility and services for the area’s growing Asian population, the new facility will create jobs; SMC is expanding its staff from 150 to 200 full-time employees. The construction project is expected to generate more than 300 full-time jobs. Finally, the development will significantly improve the streetscape to both promote additional development and add to the revitalization that is taking place in this Quincy neighborhood.
